When you experience a dental emergency, few things will cause you as much stress or worry.  McManus Family & Cosmetic Dentistry is here to serve as your emergency dentist in Newnan Georgia.  We will be happy to fit you into our schedule and provide you with the help you need in case of an emergency.

Emergency Dental Issues

If you or someone in your family has a dental emergency, you should always contact your emergency dentist for professional help.  Prior to your dentist appointment, there are things that you can do to alleviate discomfort or possible ensure better treatment results.

Toothache

Apply a cold compress to the outside of the mouth or cheek to minimize swelling and discomfort.  Rinsing the mouth with warm water can provide some relief as well.

Lost Filling or Lost Crown

If you lose a filling or your crown comes off, an over the counter temporary cement can provide short term relief if your tooth is sensitive.  Always retrieve and save the crown for your dentist to re-apply at your office visit.

Chipped or Broken Tooth

If possible, retrieve and save any broken pieces of tooth.  Rinse the mouth and apply a cold compress to the outside of the mouth to minimize swelling and pain.

Knocked Out Tooth

When a tooth is completely knocked out of the tooth socket, time is of the essence.  Handle the tooth by the crown which is the part of the tooth that is normally exposed in the mouth.  Rinse the tooth with warm water if dirty.  If possible, place the tooth back into the tooth socket making sure that it is facing in the right direction.  If you can’t place the tooth back into the socket, place the tooth in warm milk, or into warm water with a small amount of table salt.  In any case, see a dentist as soon as possible.  If no dentist is available, go to the nearest hospital emergency room for assistance.  A knocked out tooth has the greatest chance of survival if it is returned to its socket within an hour of being knocked out.

If these or any other dental issues occur to you, call our Newnan dentist office for assistance:  (770) 254-1134.  We will assist emergency patients during regular office hours.
