Dr. McManus is your Newnan GA cosmetic dentist providing smile improvements such as teeth whitening, bonding and veneers.
Cosmetic Veneers
Dental veneers (sometimes called porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates) are thin shells of tooth-colored material used to cover the front surface of your teeth. These shells are bonded to the front of the teeth and the end result is a set of teeth of the ideal size, shape and color.
Veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Your cosmetic dentist will need to file down a portion of the tooth before bonding the veneer. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin composite veneers and they reflect light almost the same as your natural teeth. Composite veneers are thinner and require less removal of the tooth surface before they are bonded. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material with your dentist.
Veneers can be used to improve the appearance of stained teeth, worn or broken teeth as well as crooked or misshapen teeth.
Veneers can last between 5 – 10 years and require only the same care you give your natural teeth. Veneers will require multiple visits to complete, and the cost of veneers can be expensive. Veneers are generally not covered by dental insurance. Check with your insurance provider.
Cosmetic Bonding
An alternative to veneers is bonding. This procedure involves bonding a resin material to the tooth. Bonding is an easier and less expensive procedure than veneers, but bonding is not as strong as porcelain veneers or crowns. Bonding is probably best suited for the cosmetic repair of one or two teeth versus an entire smile.
